Nearly thirteen years ago (are we really that old?!!!), Pete and I took part in a two week missions trip to the Dominican Republic. One of our fellow travellers was Randy, and he certainly made the trip fun, with his joyful, fun loving personality, and his fervent desire to serve the Lord. Now we’re all grown up (*sigh*), and Randy has married the love of his life, Karen. Together, they are serving the Lord on the same island we worked on so many years ago, but now they are working on the other half of Hispaniola, in Haiti. They serve as directors of Adoration Christian Centre where, according to the website (http://cdiacanada.com/), they “have taken on roles that range from property managers to work team hosts, to staff supervisors. However, their greatest impact has been as mentors to the many Haitian students, young people, and staff, with whom they have developed close relations.”
Randy and Karen were in Haiti when the earthquake devastated the region, and Karen and their young daughter Maia returned to safety here in Canada, while Randy stayed behind to help with aid and reconstruction. Randy is now back here to visit, and they will be returning together as a family to take up their work again, the Lord willing, next week. To show appreciation for the work that they do in Haiti, I asked them if they could fit in a portrait session before their departure. Lucky for me, they were thrilled with the offer…and I got another adorable little model for my portfolio!
